Development Of Mesothelioma Signs And Symptoms

Most people who go to their doctors and receive a diagnosis of mesothelioma do so because they’re experiencing shortness of breath and chest pain. They think that they’ve got a heart problem, but they find that what they’ve actually got is mesothelioma – and most of them are very shocked to be told that. They might not even remember that they were exposed to asbestos in the past. That’s especially true if they weren’t directly exposed through being an asbestos worker. Instead, they might have been married to someone who worked with asbestos, or they may have had a parent or other close relative who worked with it. The fibers could have come home on that person’s hair, skin, or clothing, and those fibers could have been inhaled by other people who came into contact with them on a regular basis.

Once the asbestos fibers get down into the lungs they don’t come back out, and they irritate the lining, eventually causing tumors in some people. When mesothelioma first starts to grow it doesn’t have any symptoms. The person might not even know that he or she is sick, and there won’t be any pain or other problems. However, as the tumors grow bigger it’s much more likely that pain will be present, along with the shortness of breath, fatigue, weight loss, and nausea that are often seen with advanced mesothelioma.
